Winners announced of Carson City Parks & Recreation awards

The Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation has announced the 2010 recipients of its Special Recognition Awards:

• Organization of the year:

Mark Twain Garden Club for planting trees in Mills Park, planting flowers at the Roberts House and donating $150 to the Fish Pond. The garden club has been in Carson City since 1949 planting around the Brewery Arts Center, Governor's Mansion, the old Carson Tahoe Hospital, Mills Park and more.

• Business of the Year:

Carson Nugget for the years it has supported the Arlington Square Ice Skating Rink program.

• Volunteer of the Year:

CK Baily for his many years of promoting the Urban Fishing Pond project. CK has spent a lot of his time raising funds for this project, accumulating nearly $475,000.

• Volunteer of the Years:

Chuck Saulisberry for his dedicated work as a volunteer with many Carson City non-profit organizations, most notably, as the treasurer of the Carson City Historical Society for the past 20-plus years, a volunteer in the Junior Ski Program for more than 40 years, and a member of the Carson City Sheriff's Aero Squadron since 1968. He has been a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol for more than 40 years.

Each recipient's name will be placed on the monument in Mills Park at the entrance to the Pony Express Pavilion. There will be a dedication ceremony at 2 p.m. Dec. 13.
