Storm coverage; Wahoe Valley now open in both directions

Another winter storm is expected to dump one to three inches of snow by early afternoon today followed by record-low temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

As of about 11 a.m., northbound and southbound U.S. 395 in Washoe Valley are now open, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

NHP Spokesman Chuck Allen said Mt. Rose Highway is closed. On the Reno side of the highway traffic is being turned around at Joy Lake Road and on the lake side it is being turn around near mile marker five near Incline Village.

Also, a snow plow struck a parked car on the highway this morning after the driver got out to help another motorist. Allen said the damage was "minimal".

Now, the concern will be the temperature, which is expected to plunge this afternoon.

"Anything that's not frozen will be before the evening commute," he said.

Below is the live coverage of our sister papers in Lake Tahoe. By this afternoon, as much as 10 to 20 inches of snow is expected at lake level, with as much as 2 to 3 feet anticipated above 7,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
