A woman reported missing by her family might not want to be found, police said Wednesday.

Carson Sheriff's Capt. Clay Wall said Stephanie Baxley will continue to be listed in a national database as missing and endangered until his office receives information otherwise.

Baxley, 53, was last seen on Nov. 6 after a deputy spoke with her by the Carson River. The following day her family reported her missing and suicidal. When officers returned to the spot where Baxley had been camping, she was gone.

On Nov. 8, Baxley allegedly was at a friend's house when she saw a Nevada Appeal article on her disappearance. Baxley crumpled up the newspaper and said "she's a grown adult and she wanted to be left alone," said Wall.

"We're still actively looking to talk to you. We need to hear from you that you are not intending to hurt yourself or harming yourself or you're not in need of our assistance," said Wall.

Anyone, including Baxley herself, can report her whereabouts to Carson City non-emergency dispatch at 887-2007.
