Jewel M. Forsythe passed away on September 24, 2010. She was born April 26, 1919 in Monticello, Minn., to Bert and Lettie Davis, the 11th of 12 children. Jewel moved to Dayton in 1969 from Pittsburg, Calif., with her husband Barney Forsythe, who preceded her in death in 1981. Jewel had two sons, Richard and Gordon, who also preceded her in death.

She is survived by daughter Janis Matson of Antioch, Calif., grandson Randy Anderson of Carmichael, Calif., granddaughter Victoria Scott of Cumming, Ga., great-granddaughters Heather and Maiga Scott and great-grandson Declan Scott, also of Cumming, Ga., and many nieces and nephews throughout the United States also survive her.

Jewel worked as a cook at the Dayton Senior Center for 6 1/2 years until an accident prevented her from returning to her job except as an occasional volunteer. She was well known for the many pies and cakes she made for friends and other delicious treats from her kitchen that she provided for local social events.

She was Citizen of the Year for Dayton, Sweetheart of the Year for Dayton Fire Department, two time Grand Marshal for Santa Maria parade and put in many hours of volunteer work for the Dayton Senior Citizen Center. Jewel will be sorely missed by her many friends in the Dayton area. FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for arrangements.
