A memorial Mass for Jerome "Jerry" Kerfeld, a Carson City resident for the past 38 years, will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 11, 2010 at 2 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City. Inurnment with full military honors will follow in Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Mr. Kerfeld was born Aug. 7, 1918 in Freeport, Minn., and passed away at home on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2010 surrounded by his family. Mr. Kerfeld was a retired Chief Air Force Warrant Officer with service of 30 years. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the National Association for Uniformed Service, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Knights of Columbus. He served in England during World War II. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and four Campaign Ribbons. He also served in Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Kerfeld, his sister, Marie Koch, and son, Stephen. Among his survivors are his wife of 58 wonderful years, Margaret; sons, David of Carson City, Paul of Folsom, Calif., Charles of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Robert of Inver Grove, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Hospice. Arrangements entrusted to Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Carson City.
