130 YEARS AGO

On Saturday night a Bodie teamster coming into Carson from Bridgeport was accosted by a man who sprung from behind a boulder with a six-shooter. Upon invitation to halt the teamster threw up his hands and was relieved of $118 in coin and a check made in favor to James Young for $150. The night was too dark to distinguish the robber, but the teamster says he pretty well knows the man.

100 YEARS AGO

The editor of the Carson City News continues to ignore the facts that Key Pittman, Democratic party candidate for United States Senator, owns property "up in the clouds" in Clark County, but in Nye County as well.

70 YEARS AGO

A grand fireworks display paid for by Shell Company will be the feature of the Nevada Admission Day celebration October 31. Screaming eagle rockets, spangled shells, red, white and blue meteors, lightning and multiple report shells, searchlight shells and thundering batteries are just a few of the surprises awaiting onlookers at Nevada's Admission Day.

50 YEARS AGO

The hard-hitting senators squeezed past Sparks in a crucial conference game. Fullback John Sullivan crashed through the middle of the Sparks line to give coach Harvey Dickinson's Blue and White team the extra point for the winning margin.

20 YEARS AGO

Radon, a naturally occurring gas linked to lung cancer, exceeds recommended levels in 10 percent of Nevada homes, a study indicates.

10 YEARS AGO

The first significant storm of the season brought out die hard skiers. Eight inches of snow was reported in the higher elevations at Alpine Meadows. "The skiers are out and they are having fun anyways."
