Old farmer Treadway, better known as "Old Tread," is out as an Independent candidate for Assembly. We don't think there is much nutrient this year for Independent candidates, but we think that if he is successful, he will be as honest a representative as the people ever had.

100 years ago

This afternoon a warrant was issued for Tom Williamson, a stranger in this city who came in after his mother became ill, camped near the Gardner place. Williamson entered Meyer's saloon and after a few drinks attempted to run the place, throwing the proprietor from behind the bar. After the ensuing fight, the man was taken to jail in Arnold Millard's delivery wagon.

70 years ago

Practically every 1940 University of Nevada school of education graduate is now teaching in the state, Dean Fred W. Traner said this week. The 1940 graduates are teaching in all but two of the 17 counties in the state. White Pine with 14, leads all counties with the number of this year's class employed. Only Ormsby and Storey are not represented.

50 years ago

Some 400 American Indians from Nevada and eastern California are expected to participate in a special program on Nevada Day. The highlight is a two-part program at the Junior High school athletic field at 3 p.m.

Fifteen wild horse complaints have been recorded after horses have been forced to the industrial area and along Hot Springs Road in search of food and water.

The historic Civil War monument in Lone Mountain Cemetery may get a face lift after 110 years of weather and vandalism.
