WNC hosts economic development delegation from Kazakhstan

Western Nevada College recently played host to a delegation of visitors from the Central Asian country of Kazakhstan. Traveling the United States for three weeks and touring California and Northern Nevada industries and colleges, the group visited WNC's Fallon campus to learn about the college's Workforce Development Center, which offers customized classes and industry training in a variety of areas.

"The delegation was very interested in the self-sustaining nature of our workforce training," said Bus Scharmann, dean of the Fallon campus and rural economic development programs. "The fact that companies pay for customized training seemed unusual to them."

Hailing from Kazakhstan's oil rich region, the 12 members of the delegation paid special attention to details about WNC's geothermal industry training that was conducted earlier this year.
