After 23 years in business, the Sporting Rage closed its doors for good on Tuesday.

Owners Dave Goodwin and Ryan Frost took over the business on Jan. 1, 2005, after working there for years. The store, 4338 S. Carson St., sold gear for kayaking, skiing, rock climbing and other outdoor sports.

Hours before closing their doors on Tuesday, Goodwin and Frost were busy taking down their merchandise.

Goodwin - who said he was born on skis - said the economy had taken too high a toll on the business, especially over the past two years.

He said the experience had been an "American dream turned into American nightmare."
