Walk your dog or just yourself at the Douglas Animal Welfare Group's Mutt Poker Walk on Oct. 2 - rain or shine. Walkers are also encouraged to sign up sponsors. Prizes will be awarded.

The Mutt Poker Walk is a fundraiser that benefits the dogs and cats at the Douglas County Animal Shelter. Funds collected by DAWG members help pay for medical care, promotion of pets and spaying/-neutering programs and other needs that aid adoption of the animals.

The entry fee to be eligible for prize drawings with Best Poker hand and a goodie bag is $25 for walkers with or without a dog. Preregistration is requested by Sept. 27.

Check-in is from 8-11 a.m. at the Carson Valley Museum, with map, doughnuts, beverage, doggie cookie, and walker goodie bag to be provided. First walk starts at 9 a.m. and last walk ends at 11 a.m.

Sierra Storm will provide entertainment from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The Lion's Club offer up a barbecue lunch for purchase between 11 a.m.-1 p.m. There will also be vendor booths, a 50-50 drawing, microchip clinic, fun dog contests.
