LAS VEGA - The libertarian Reason Foundation has ranked Nevada's roads the 15th best in the country.
The rankings were based on 2008 highway performance and cost effectiveness.
The state has been moving up in the rankings after placing 18th in 2007 and 20th in 2006. However, it is still down from its ranking earlier in the decade. Nevada placed 13th in 2000 and ninth in 2005.
The Las Vegas Sun reported that Nevada took first place in the condition of rural interstates, the condition of bridges and the width of rural lanes. But the state placed low on the list for fatality rates and administrative costs, ranking 41st in both.
The top five spots overall went to North Dakota, Montana, Kansas, New Mexico and Nebraska.
