Nevadans are gathering once again to honor the victims of 9/11 and show appreciation to the military and firefighters at the ninth annual 911 Never Forget Memorial Motorcycle Run, sponsored by Iron Nation motorcycle club.

The event starts at Cottonwood Park in Sparks and runs through downtown Sparks and Reno. All proceeds go to support the Nevada Military Support Alliance, formerly known as the Nevada Patriot Fund.

"This fund brings much needed assistance to the surviving families of Nevada's brave and courageous military personnel lost or seriously injured while defending and protecting our country and freedom," said Perry Di Loreto of the Nevada Military Support Alliance.

To date, 53 Nevadans have died in the war on terror.

"As a retired veteran I cannot stress enough the importance of supporting our troops, both at home and abroad," said Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell. "We must not forget that each day as we wake up safe and secure in our homes that our fighting men and women will be walking into harm's way for us."

The event has grown since its first run.

"With over 800 riders and the generosity of our sponsors, Iron Nation MC has been able to make ample donations to the Nevada Military Support Alliance of close to $80,000," said Bob Dawg, president of Iron Nation and the event coordinator. "This year we hope to exceed or at least match our contribution of $17,000 from 2009."

You do not need to ride a motorcycle to attend this family-friendly event. Activities include live music from Cash Only Band and The Reno House Band, special guest speakers, live auction, food, local color guard, bounce house and a raffle with prizes. The parade will be escorted throughout both downtown areas of Reno and Sparks.

Riders from Carson City and Douglas County are encouraged to participate. For more information, call Flame, 775-230-2232
