The third annual Northern Nevada Unity Ride rolls into town Saturday, with a day of festivities following at Carson City Harley-Davidson, 2900 Research Way.

The event, hosted by Fellowship Riders, Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley, Christian Motorcycle Association, Chariots of Light and Soul'd Out Ministries, is a benefit for Angel Tree Ministries, providing Christmas gifts to children whose parents are incarcerated.

"Wheels of Grace Ministries is no longer doing the ride, but we decided as a group that since it's here, and it does good, we wanted it to continue," said Tom Duran, event coordinator.

The day begins at Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley, 28 Enterprise Way, off Highway 50, with registration from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Pastor Jim Kelley of Christian Motorcycle Association leads the Blessing of the Bikes from

10 to 10:45 a.m. Kickstands go up at 11.

"We've enjoyed doing this the last couple years ... we finally have an event where Christians are working together and want to welcome everyone," Duran said. "This year, we're really focusing on making it an event that families can attend. The ride is open to everyone - bikes or vehicles."

There will be an assortment of vendors, as well as a bounce house and climbing wall at Harley-Davidson. There also will be live music, a barbecue hosted by The Pitt BBQ of Dayton, a 50/50 raffle and an assortment of items for raffle. Bike games also are planned.

The cost is $15 single or $25 for two, plus an unwrapped toy. The fee includes a barbecue and other food also will be available.

Vendors are still needed, and should contact Duran as soon as possible.

"There is no cost for our booths ... we just want everyone there to be blessed, especially during these economic times," he said.

The underlying reason though, comes back to making a difference.

"We've adopted 10 children already and if the donations allow, we'll sponsor more," Duran said. "The gifts are wrapped and given to these local children on behalf of their parents."

Editors note: This article has been changed from the original to reflect that registration is 9:30-10:30 a.m. and a shirt is not included in the entry fee.
