COMMUNITY SPORTS BRIEFLY: Jr. Midgets blank Douglas

Carson City's Jr. Midget squad came out strong and shut out the Douglas Tigers 24-0 during the weekend.

Carson's defense did a spectacular job keeping Douglas out of the red zone. Shawn Harp had a fumble recovery in the second quarter to shut Douglas' drive down. Also Brady O'Keefe had an interception late in the fourth quarter.

Josiah Pongasi had a 15-yard touchdown run in the first quarter with Corey Reid kicking the extra point. Late in the second quarter, Colby Brown had a 45-yard touchdown run with Pongasi kicking the extra point. Brown had a 55-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Reid's PAT completed the scoring.

The Jr. Midget will take on North Lake Tahoe on at 3 p.m. Saturday at Incline High School.

• The Carson Pee Wee Senators improved to 2-0 on the season with a 18-0 win over the Sparks Wolfpack.

Carson scored on the second play of the game with Dennis Krueger running in from 48 yards. John Cavilia tallied two touchdowns and Donald Hurst also ran well for Carson. The offensive line played a great game all night for the Senators.

Defensively. Carson did not allow the Wolfpack into the end zone all night. Conner Larkin, Nick Andreas, Dennis Krueger and Jacob Moose played well defensively Carson returns to action Oct. 2 at South Lake Tahoe.

First Tee tourney set for Oct. 1 at Eagle Valley

The First Tee of Northern Nevada is set for Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. at Eagle Valley Golf Course.

The cost is $85, which includes green fee, cart, tee prize, contest and awards. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 24. The cost may go up if you sign up after that.

Delreal wins club title

at Dayton Valley

Jose Delreal won the Tahoe Flight with a 36-hole net total of 148 at last weekend's Palmer Club championship at Dayton Valley.

John Hauck and Bob Nuzzo tied for second at 150 each, while Bob McConville was fourth at 154. Jeff Miller and Mike Walker tied for fifth at 155.

Jim Collins shot a gross 151 and Cory Peterson had a 154 gross.

In the Sierra Flight, Paul Ragland was first with a 3-under-par 141 and James Harrison was second with a 152. John Benkert was third at 154 and John Oden was fourth at 155.

Boykin wins women's club title at Eagle Valley

Kim Boykin carded a 154 to win the Eagle Valley Women's Club championship played Sept. 7-8.

Robin Ponte was second with a 161. Gerri Murphy won low net with a 130. Gail Nelsen recorded a hole-in-one on No. 4 on the first day of the tournament.

Angie Scrivner won low gross in the first flight with a 168, while Beth Juri won low net with a 138.

Dee Dee Murray and Carol Casella won low gross in the second flight with a 187, while Amy Phelps won low net with a 132.

Lynn Collins was the low gross winner in the third flight with a 211, while Shirley Shearer was low net with a 141.

• Joyce Boecher shot a 45 to win the Eagle Valley Women's Club Throw Out Mean Three Holes tournament on Sept. 15 on the West course.

Amy Phelps was second with a 46, Lynn Collins was third with a 48 and Eva Sulprizo was fourth with a 50.

Dorman, Sanford win at Carson Valley tournament

John Dorman finished with 22 points to win Flight A in the Carson Valley Men's Club Stableford Tournament on Sept. 12.

Bruce Sanford won the B Flight with a 26 and Paul Finan took the C Flight with a 28.

John Murray was second in A Flight with an 18, Mike Breckenridge was second in B Flight with a 21 and Gary Cartsen was second in C Flight with a 19.

• Marc Prause, Matthew Bujako and John Cary were flight winners in Carson Valley's Men's Club tournament.

Prause had a net 70 to win the A Flight, while Bujako won the B Flight with a 67 and John Cary took the C Flight with a 69.

Bob Pemberton was second in the A Flight with a 73, while John Murray and Neil Bain tied for second in the B Flight with a 70.

Al Goldberg and Jim Arens tied for second in C Flight with a 71.

Plymell, Oglesby tie at Thunder Canyon

Randy Plymell and Bob Oglesby collected 43 points apiece to tie for first in the Thunder Canyon Men's Club Stableford Tournament on Sept. 17.

Dave Westfall was third with 42 points, while Jeff Gussow was fourth with 40. John O'Looney, Leland Sullivan and Mike Judge tied for fifth with 38 points apiece.

Parmenter records ace

at Empire Ranch

Jeanne Parmenter, a teacher at Empire Elementary, recorded a hole-in-one on No. 5 on the Blue course at Empire Ranch on Sept. 19.

Parmenter used a 3-wood for her 112-yard shot.

Sierra Lutheran basketball fundraiser set for Sept. 30

Sierra Lutheran High School will host its fourth annual Falcon Festival, which benefits the Sierra Lutheran basketball program on Sept. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. on Esmeralda Avenue in front of the Barone & Reed Food Co.

The event includes a wine tasting with appetizers and food samples from Barone & Reed. Music will be provided by the Jeff Wayne Ensemble, and UCLA graduate and former pro tennis player Janie Johnson will host a book signing for her book "Don't Take My Lemonade Stand, An American Philosophy" which is currently ranked No. 1 on the Amazon Government Nonfiction list.

Tahoe Creamery will provide ice cream samples and artwork from some of the Valley's top artists will be on display courtesy of the Lone Tree Gallery.

Cost is $25 per person with tickets available for purchase at Barone & Reed.

Tickets can be purchased at the event as well. All proceeds go toward the Sierra Lutheran basketball program.

All Work & No Play leads Comstock pool league

All Work & No Play leads Big Dogs by 10 points in the Comstock Division of the Carson City Chapter of the American Poolplayers Association.

Daniel McRae of the Over the Hill Gang leads the 6-9 tier with nine points, six ahead of Don Allred of Scratch Masters and Juan Pina of Twisted Stix With Attitudes. Robert Matteson o Rack Busters leads the 4-5 tier with 16 points, five ahead of Casey Richards of Support Rackless Habits and Dennis Sisson Jr. of Big Dogs. Lisa McCuiston of The Spoke leads the 1-3 tier with 14 points, two ahead of James Panos of Rack Busters.

Middle school basketball

Carson Middle School 8th Grade Girls:

The eighth grade Carson Middle School girls basketball team improved its record to 8-1 over the last week.

On Thursday the team beat Carson Valley, 26-6. Leading scorers for CMS were: Kayla Aikins and Alyssa Ridley with eight points. On Friday the team beat Winnemucca, 29-18. Ridley scored 10, Aikins added six and Maddie Preston added six points,

The team then beat Battle Mountain, 38-2. Leading scorers were: Bethany Kniffen with 11, Amanda Breen with eight and Ali Barrette seven.

On Monday Carson won 33-1 over Fernley. Ridley and Barrette scored seven apiece to lead the team. On Tuesday the team won 25-3 over Alder Creek. Aikins led the team with 10 while Melanie McGruder scored five points.

On Tuesday, Carson beat Alder Creek 25-3. Kayla Aikins led the offense with 10 points.

Carson Middle School 7th Grade Girls:

After back-to-back losses the Carson Middle School girls basketball team bounced back with three straight wins during the last week.

On Thursday, CMS lost to Carson Valley, 19-13. Leading the way for CMS was: Liz Heinz with six points. Melissa Glanzmann added three. On Thursday, the team fell to WInnemucca, 20-18. Leading the team was Serena Miller with nine points, Glanzmann added three points.

Also on Thursday, Carson beat Battle Mountain, 24-0. Jozie Bucchianeri and Miller led the team with six points. Bailee Barber chipped in four points.

On Monday, Carson defeated Fernley 35-12. Miller led the team with 13 points. Andrea Maffei added six points. Lindy Lehman added four points, Heinz, Allison Kibbe and Glanzmann all chipped in three points.

On Tuesday, Carson capped a busy week with a 22-3 win over Alder Creek. Miller scored six points to lead the team. Lehman added four. Carson is now 7-2 overall.
