DAYTON SOCCER: Boys, girls lose to North Tahoe

DAYTON - North Tahoe scored the game's only goal in the 33rd minute to knock off Dayton 1-0 in a girls soccer match Thursday afternoon.

The loss dropped Dayton to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in league.

"It was a really good game," Dayton coach Jared Miklich said. "The teams were pretty evenly matched. It could have gone either way. Both teams played extremely well.

"We had a couple of communication breakdowns late in the first half that ended up costing us the goal."

Dayton's offense never really got untracked, according to Miklich.

"We didn't have a real solid shot (on goal)," Miklich said. "We did have some good opportunities, but they have a great sweeper and goalie."

Dayton visits Lowry in a non-league match at 11 a.m. Saturday.

DAYTON BOYS LOSE THRILLER

DAYTON - North Tahoe scored in the 78th minute to beat the Dust Devils 2-1.

The game was scoreless until the 50th minute when Leo Rodriguez blasted one in from 30 yards.

Dayton maintained the lead until the 60th minute when Dayton's Isaiah Ruybal deflected a North Tahoe shot and it got by goalie Edgar Diaz, tying the match at 1. The Lakers scored the game-winner with two minutes left in regulation.

"It was by far our best performance and I am very proud of my team and pleased with the way they played," Dayton coach Karl Watts said. "Facing the reality of being beaten by South Tahoe and Whittell, the team faced a moment of truth; to accept losing or to respond fighting. I was pleased to see signs of life and progress when the reality could have been otherwise.

Edgar Diaz defended the goal well otherwise with at least seven saves and the defense was sturdy all game. It felt nice to compete again; to sense the ability to win, which we really needed to feel."
