Silver State Charter Schools will be holding an open house 6 p.m. Thursday at the school, 3719 N. Carson St.

SSCS is a accredited, free public middle and high school where students are required to attend class once a week to meet with their teachers and all course work is completed online.

The school's buses pick up students from Douglas, Lyon and Washoe counties.

Students, parents and community members are invited to tour the school, navigate the new website, and meet the teachers and administrators during the open house.

Middle school student Skylar Owens, who won a Gold Medal at The 2011 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, will also be at the school showing her photograph "Prince Briery."

Refreshments and raffle prizes will be available. For more information, call (775) 883-7900.
