SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The recovery of a body from deep water near Rubicon Point on Lake Tahoe's West Shore last week may have been a drowning victim from the 1990s, according to officials.

El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies used a remote operated vehicle to locate and raise the body July 27, according to a statement released earlier today. The body was first discovered by a scuba diver in 265 feet of water, who alerted the El Dorado Sheriff's Office.

Marine and dive teams anchored a patrol boat near Rubicon Point and used the craft as a launching station for the ROV. After several hours of operation, the body was located.

The ROV operator used the mechanical claw to bring the body to the surface, where divers could complete the recovery.

The body is believed to be an accidental drowning victim from the 1990s, said EDSO spokesman Lt. Les Lovell. Further details are awaiting a El Dorado County coroner's report.
