A self-serve yogurt shop opened at the Topsy Lane shopping center last month.

Mmmmm Yogurt, 963 Topsy Lane, located next to the In N' Out, offers 16 flavors of frozen yogurts -such as dark chocolate, birthday cake and s'mores -and 75 toppings. A serving costs 39 cents an ounce.

The shop will host a grand opening from 1-4 p.m. Jan. 15 and will provide free yogurt.

The venture is owned by business partners Bill Grebitus, a retired trader, and Chris McCabe, who spent his career in the food industry.

They opened their first Mmmmm Yogurt in northwest Reno in October.

Restaurant changes ownership

Canyon Creek Grill and Bar, 939 Mica Dr., is under new management.

Raul Berumen took over the fledging restaurant in north Douglas County in December. The original owners, Paul and Justin Schmidt, opened the restaurant in July and are now opening another eatery Sacramento.

"We're going to try to improve the quality of the food," Berumen said. "And the service is going to improve a lot."

He said the restaurant will add some new menu items, such as seafood enchiladas.

New consignment shop Opens

A Carson City woman has opened a new consignment shop in east Carson City.

Marie Davis recently opened Past to Present 2nd Hand Store, 2250 Empire Ranch Rd., off of Highway 50 E.

Davis will offer consignment, antiques and current goods. She is also the former co-owner of Serendip-ity's, an antique and collectibles shop, that closed last year.

"I had an overabundance of my customers who wanted me to do something on my own," Davis said. "We're ready to start accepting customers now."

Big 5 opening soon

Carson City's Big 5 Sporting Goods will open its new Southgate Shopping Center location on Jan. 20, according to a company spokesman.

The store, located next door to Big Lots, will open in the early afternoon that Thursday and from then on open at 10 a.m.

The story also will host a grand opening on Jan. 27, which will include product giveaways.

The Big 5 Sporting Goods store in north Carson City, which opened in October 1997, will close on Jan. 19 before the new, 50,000-square-foot storefront opens.
