Faith & Insight: 'Thinker' has much to say

One of my daughters bought me an interesting gift. She bought me a small statue of the Thinker.

As we all know it is a very popular piece and most recently was part of a big Hollywood hit, "Night At The Museum II." Unfortunately, Rodin's masterpiece was depicted as pretty much a punch drunk guy that got a glimpse of another beautiful statue of a woman. His assistance was being requested, to get some direction, which was never achieved.

The artist, however, did not have that in mind when he was doing his work. He was actually giving spiritual direction through the piece. You see, the piece is actually one of 186 pieces known as The Gates of Hell, where the Thinker is contemplating an eternal decision. We find the Thinker sitting on top of the lentil portion of a door, which in the sculpture is between Heaven and Hell. Its truly something to behold.

That's where each of us find ourselves. Life is a decision, an action, that has eternal ramifications. The Bible teaches us that "while it is said: 'Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.'" Hebrews 3:15.

As we prepare to close the first month of 2011 it would be a wise decision to consider, even more than the Thinker, and determine to say "yes" to Jesus, as the Bible also teaches, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'" John 14:6.

May the Lord bless and keep you throughout this entire year. May His face shine upon you and keep you in His perfect peace.
