LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas has a new mayor with a familiar last name.

Carolyn Goodman was sworn in Wednesday by her husband, former Mayor Oscar Goodman.

Oscar Goodman marked his last day in office on Tuesday. His 12 years in office ended because of term limits.

Carolyn Goodman is the founder and former leader of The Meadows School, a private academy in northwest Las Vegas.

She said on the campaign trail that as mayor she would advocate for Las Vegas' troubled schools.

Oscar Goodman campaigned heavily for his wife's election in June, saying she was the best candidate to carry on his vision for Las Vegas.

Oscar Goodman will remain in the public spotlight. He's taken a job helping promote Sin City through its main tourism agency.
