Flume traveling: Few people have an idea of the immensity of the lumber business at the Lake. At the Incline, wonderful engineering feats have been accomplished. Long, snake-like flumes bend and swerve in and out of the rocky canyons. A well dressed stranger got off the boat recently and inquired of Charles McFarlan what attractions the road to Carson furnished. Mac wandered away in a long description and said that a trip through the flume tunnel a mile long would be scenic. The tourist hired a cayuse and struck out for the flume. The first hundred yards was plain sailing, then the candle went out and roof became lower. On he plunged getting madder every step until he reached daylight. He walked back over the hill to his horse and after wringing out out his clothes started back looking for McFarlan whom he was very anxious to see.
