Heading into Thursday's final round of the Girls Junior Americas Cup at Genoa Lakes, Northern California had a eight-stroke lead over second-place Oregon.
The tournament, which draws the top female junior golfers between the ages of 14 and 17 from around the Western United States, Canada and Mexico, wrapped up Thursday afternoon after The R-C's press deadline. Results will be in Sunday's R-C.
Participating teams are made of the top four junior golfers from their respective regions. Each team's best three scores count toward the team total for the day.
Northern California shot a 431 over the first two days of competition, while Oregon came in at 438.
Hawaii (439), Southern California (440) and San Diego (440) rounded out the top five in the competition.
Northern Nevada trailed in 17th, but Gardnerville resident KoKo Terada, 14, leads the team with a four-over 173 over the first two days.
Terada is one of only four 14-year-olds playing in the tournament.
"She had some pre-tournament jitters," Les Terada, KoKo's father said. "She shot a nine on the first hole with two lost balls, but she started to calm down on the back nine.
"She improved by seven strokes on Wednesday. The competition is such a high level. She's just looking to use this experience for next year, absorb it and have fun."
Paige Lee, of Folsom, Calif., was atop the leaderboard heading into Thursday with a two-day five-under 139.
