March is Blood Donor Appreciation Month

Hero status isn't reserved for only the brave men and women who rush into burning buildings or fight on the front lines of war.

"There's a hero in all of us," said Steve Thomas, donor recruitment director of United Blood Services. "Ordinary people are saving lives every day. They have found the hero in themselves by donating blood."

"March is the official Donor Appreciation Month," said Alana Ross, donor recruitment supervisor for United Blood Services of Carson City.

Every blood donor will receive a free cholesterol test and a specially designed T-shirt to recognize their contribution.

Potential donors can make an appointment to give at www.BloodHero.com or by calling 887-9111. UBS Carson City is located at 256 E. Winnie Lane.

United Blood Services of Reno is the sole blood products supplier to 22 hospitals in Northern Nevada. They need approximately 150 blood donations every day to meet the increasing demand for blood products.
