MINDEN - The Douglas High baseball team was all business in its season-opener Thursday afternoon, dismantling Truckee 14-2.

Matt Thomas struck out 10 and walked just one while allowing four hits and two runs in five innings of work to pick up the win.

Kameron Van Winkle went 2-for-2 with two doubles and five RBIs to lead the Tigers at the plate. Thomas and Brett Parks each went 2-for-2 as well, with Thomas driving in two.

Cody Begovich, Tanner Egan and Parks each drove in one run and Cody Lommori tripled.

"It's good to get that first one out of the way," Douglas coach Bruce Jacobsen said. "This is the first time Truckee has even been able to get outside this year and they were missing some guys, but they'll get there.

"For us to come out and get guys up and down the lineup hitting the ball hard, it's a good start."

Jacobsen was particularly pleased with his starting pitcher's performance.

"Matt Thomas was great today," Jacobsen said. "He threw strikes and got the job done."

Thomas also was at the heart of the productive day for Douglas' 3, 4 and 5 hitters.

"Kameron had a big day, Matt was solid and Cody Lommori was right there too," Jacobsen said. "They made it look easy today and it is not easy."

Also for Douglas, Leo Trebotich scored a pair of runs and Sullivan Cauley and Jimmy King each scored a run.

Douglas continues the Mike Bearman Memorial Tournament today with games against Elko and Spanish Springs in Sparks.
