Swift's hot springs: Swift's Hot Springs is growing in popularity. Bob Keating, Mercey Otey and several other Comstockers were down there indulging in their regular weekly wash. Captain Lyon, the Governor's private secretary, gave exhibitions of skill as a diver when his nose collided with an oyster shell.

120 YEARS AGO

The new organ: There was a packed congregation at the Episcopal Church to hear the new pipe organ. The chancel was buried under a mass of beautiful flowers, which vied in coloring with new Easter bonnets. Rev. Holmes preached an eloquent sermon. The new pipe organ was artistically handled by John P. Meder.

70 YEARS AGO

Crickets: During the 1940 control season an estimated 600,000 acres of pasture and crop lands were protected from cricket damage. An estimated 2,139,000 acres was damaged to approximately 17 percent.

50 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Walford and journalism students Alice Case, DeLinda Kirby, Linda Chambers, Tom Harvey and John Whitehead visited the University of Nevada Journalism department to attend a lecture given by Mr. Bob Miller of the United Press.

State facing $45 million shortfall if sales and gaming taxes don't bounce back. According to Mark Stevens, if gaming and sales tax recover and meet projections in 2002, the shortfall this year would translate to $96 million less revenue for the two-year budget.
