COMMUNITY SPORTS: Carson City's Snoddy ninth in pool tourney

Carson City's Mike Snoddy finished ninth in his tier at the American Poolplayer Association's 9-Ball Shootout at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Snoddy qualified based on his performance at a regional competition held earlier this year in Sparks. Snoddy was one of 278 players who qualified for the event.

Snoddy won $750 for his efforts.

Willis, Ford win at Silver Oak

Robey Willis and Paul Ford combined for a 64 to win the Silver Oak Senior Men's Club Ryder Cup format event.

Rudy Hammond and John Dark were a stroke behind at 65 and Vern Rosse and Lew Dodgion were tied for third at 66 with Luther Best and Walter Aster. The teams of Ron Tamori and Gary Helseth and Bob Lewis and Alex Talmant tied for fifth with 67s.

Beat pro, president at Thunder Canyon

The teams of John Anderson and Fran Menante and Paul Lumos and Ron Babey shots 63s to beat Thunder Canyon pro Dave La Fata and president Mike Bennert.

The duo of Buz Allen and Stan Bailey, Butch Cattanach and Carl Baker, and Larry Greenman and Rick Hodge tied for third with 66s.

On the women's side, Claudia Goodnight and LeAnne Crowell shot a 65, losing by a stroke to La Fate and Shirley Westfall. Theresa Beggs and Cheryl Lukens were second with a 66, while Bianca Daykin and Virginia Bonar were third with a 68.

Foursome shoots 45 for scramble win

Robey Willis, Al Porter, Geoffrey Swann and Dennis Justin shot 45 to win Flight A in the Empire Ranch Senior Men's Club scramble tourney.

Tom Cashen, Joseph Hurm, Jack Pishnak and Ross Sidebotto took second with a 51. John Masiello, Nick Paul, John Lewis and Jim Green were third with a 52. Terry Thomas, Tony Barbaria, Ed Rector and Romie Lofthous were fourth with a 53.

In Flight B, Charles Bell, Bob Blom, Paul Weller and Frank Romano won with a 47. Ken Cuneo, Henry Ortiz, Hans Ehrlin and Walt Blizzard were second with a 48.

Lane, Menezes tie for first

Marty Lane and Marc Menezes shot 32 to tie for the top spot in Carson Valley Men's Club Blind 9 tourney.

Steve Norton was third with a 34 and Marc Prause was fourth with a 35.

In Flight B, John Carey won with a 29, while Mike Breckenridge was second with a 31. Jack Zippwald and Matt Budjako tied for third with a 32.

Dayton High hosts golf tournament

The 17th annual Dayton High Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 15 at Dayton Valley Golf Club.

The tourney gets under way at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.

The cost is $85 per person which includes green fee, cart, lunch and a raffle ticket.

Pop Warner hosts Poker Night

Carson City Pop Warner is hosting its annual Poker Night May 14 at the Plaza Conference Center, located at 211 East Ninth St.

Doors open at 6 and the game begins at 7 p.m. The cost is $20 for entrance and food and $40 for the initial buy-in. Additional buy-ins are available throughout the night.

Football, cheer signups slated

Carson City Pop Warner has scheduled signups for players and cheerleaders May 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the indoor facility at Governors Field.

A second signup, this one at Straw Hat Pizza, will be held June 14 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Football registration is $125 and cheer registration is $60.

Free fishing at Pyramid Lake

The Paiute Tribe of Pyramid Lake invites the public for a free fishing day at Pyramid lake on May 14.

The public can come out and fish without buying a tribal fishing permit. The day is designed to educate the public about fish and the unique ecosystem of the lake.

Adult baseball league seeks teams

The Gardnerville Adult Wood Bat League is looking for additional teams for the upcoming season.

The cost is $1200 per team. Games start the first week of June and are played at Lampe Park every Sunday.

Twins win two more Little League games

The Twins beat the A's (5-3) and Brewers (12-6) in recent Carson City Little League Major Division games.

In the win over the A's, the Twins scored three in the top of the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Kyle Glanzman worked 4.2 innings to pick up the win. He struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.

Jerry Thomas led the Twins, going 3-for-3, while Jessie Wilcox went 1-for-2. Johnny Cavilia and Rosie Bautista each had two hits in a losing effort.

In the win over the Brewers, Tez Allen fanned nine in 4.2 innings of work.

Jayden DeJoseph went 4-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs, while Allen went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Kyle Glanzman went 2-for-3.

Jayson Artz and Bryce Moyle led the Brewers with two hits apiece.

The Giants knocked off the Twins 4-3, as DeJoseph and Jace Keema, two of the top pitchers in the league, battled it out for five innings. DeJoseph struck out nine and walked one while allowing three runs, and Keema fanned 10 and walked two.

Keema, Ethan Good and Brandon Iwamura all had hits for the winners. DeJoseph homered for the Twins, while Thomas went 2-for-3.

Boehnke honored at Northern Colorado

Carson High grad Tatum Boehnke was presented with the University of Northern Colorado Bear Leadership Award at the school's annual student-athlete awards.

The award is presented to one male and one female student-athlete who have demonstrated leadership, citizenship, sportsmanship, academic integrity and involvement with community service.
