Bittman wins match-play title at Thunder Canyon

Bob Bittman won six straight matches to win the Thunder Canyon Country Club match-play championship last week.

Bittman defeated John Anderson 5 and 3 in the finals.

Bittman reached the finals by knocking off Dale Brown 4 and 3, Leland Sullivan 3 and 2, Dana Whaley 8 and 7, Butch Cattanach 6 and 5 and Jim Muth 6 and 5.


Cooper, Fry win Silver Oak event

Michael Cooper and Ed Fry combined for a net 56 to win Silver Oaks Senior Men's Club best-ball tournament on Aug. 30.

Roger Cartwright and Tom Abbett were second with a 57, while Alex Talmant and Bob Lewis were third at 58 along with Tona Smith and Steve Alcalay.

Bill Challenger, Eric Fujita, Jim Silsby, Fry and Vern Payette won closest-to-the-hole awards.


Rey wins flight at Carson Valley

Jesus Rey shot a net 65 to win the A flight Carson Valley Men's Club stroke play event on Aug. 28.

Bob McLean was second at 67, while John Murray, Marc Menezes and Roger Hala were tied for third at 68. Augie Martinez won the B flight with a 67, while Charles Poe was second at 69. In C flight play, Al Goldberg and Jim Tavernier tied for first with 67s and Anthony Moore was third with a 68.


Paul wins Empire Ranch golf tournament

Nick Paul shot a net 59 to win the A flight at the Empire Ranch Senior Men's Club stroke play tournament on Aug. 31.

John Tierney shot a 61, two strokes behind Paul. Bill Gibson, Don McKensie and Phillip King all shot 62 in the B flight. Gibson was listed as the first-place winner.

Chuck Bell won the C flight with a 60, while Tom Teders and Tony Barbaria shot 63s. Adam Huber and Bob Blom both shots 60s in the D flight with Huber being listed as the winner. Don Becker won the E flight with a 54, three shots ahead of Sharkey Chiang.

Randy Wagner, Tierney, Peter Harrington and Gary Dalen were closest-to-the-hole winners.


Prause wins match play tournament

Marc Prause defeated Tim Davis 7 and 6 to win the Carson Valley Men's Club match play tournament.

Bob McLean won the first flight 1-up over Gerry Paulson. Matt Linsey defeated John Dorman 6 and 5 in the second flight.

Bruce Sanford defeated Gary Carston 6 and 5 in the third flight. In the fourth flight, Gil Causton defeated Jack Zippwald 2 and 1. Causton knocked off John Carey 5 and 3 in the fifth flight.


Kapczynski, Ryan win at Silver Oak

William Kapczynski and Mick Ryan were flight winners at the Sunday Silver Oak's Men's Club on Aug. 28.

Kapczynski won the first flight with a net 63, three strokes ahead of Mike Korioth and Gary Nitzberg. Ryan had a net 68 to win the second flight, one stroke ahead of Jeff Cloutier and five strokes ahead of Eric Moormann and Mike Gaynor.

Korioth won closest-to-the-hole honors.


Wainwright rolls 300 at Gold Dust

Chuck Wainwright bowled his first perfect game on Sept. 1 in the Thursday Men's Senior Trio League at the Gold Dust West Bowling Center.

Wainwright's other games were 200 and 247 for a series of 747.


Fall pool league gets under way

AltF4 is the first week leader in the Mosconi Division of the Carson City chapter of the American Poolplayers Association.

Jamie Day leads the high tier with seven points, while Bob King is the middle tier frontrunner with six points. Judith Bogue and Kathleen Davis are tied for the low tier lead with four points.

The Union Bruisers lead the Highway 50 Division. Andrew Crowell and Jay Allison are tied for first in the middle tier with five points apiece. Barbara Dyer leads the low tier with five points.

Envy Us 9 leads the Comstock Division. Juan Pina leads the high tier with eight points, while Mark Gilchrist and Christopher Skelly are tops in the middle tier with six points. Gregory Gonzalez leads the low tier with six points.
