SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, who donated a boat to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada for last weekend's big fundraising auction. The proceeds from the sale go to an extremely worthwhile cause.

WOODEN NICKEL: To the cretins who destroyed trees and bent soccer goals at Edmonds Sports Complex. Can't we have anything nice without the threat of mindless, no-win destruction?

SILVER DOLLAR: To the various individuals and organizations who have set up fundraisers for victims and relatives of victims of the Sept. 6 shootings at the IHOP restaurant in Carson City. This town has once again defined the word "community."

WOODEN NICKEL: To the Oprah Winfrey Network, for somehow locking up the right not to disclose what was found this week in a hidden safe that was discovered at Bill's Lake Tahoe Casino building. (Oprah's network also repeatedly promised to allow a local reporter to be present for the opening, but failed to honor that commitment.) Apparently the network plans to air footage of the opening at some future date. Quasi-spoiler: A Douglas County sheriff's official who monitored the safe's opening said it contained nothing that would spark an investigation.
