Two senior swimmers part

of FINA world mark

Two Carson Aquatic members - 83-year-old Harry Goldsmith of Glenbrook and 82-year-old Pierre Hathaway - competed for the Alameda Acqautic Masters team at the Pacific Masters LCM Championship at College of San Mateo.

The two locals teamed up with two other swimmers (both over 80) and swam in the 320-359 age group. The quartet clocked a 7:14.62 in the 400 freestyle relay which broke the previous record of 7:17.96 held by four Russian swimmers.

The FINA organization didn't start to compile times until late 2009. A U.S. team swam a faster time in 2007, but it wasn't recognized because FINA wasn't compiling marks then.

Another Carson Aqautic swimmer, Washoe Valley's Larry Greenman, swam unatached. He was sixth in the 60-64 age group in the 1500-meter free (25:40.17).
