130 years ago

A high fence is being erected about the vacant lot opposite the Ormsby House, which looms above the first story of the hotel. This fence is to be used for the highly illuminated posters of the circus which will be here in July. If the fence is to attract a mob of street Arabs and unkempt persons to that particular locality, then it will be an eminent success. Occupants of the Ormsby will get to witness some of the choicest morsels of circus criticism from Carson gamin.

100 years ago

Yesterday afternoon two of Carson's most popular young people were married. Miss Ora Fern Millard, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Millard became the bride of Jesse C. Tranter. In order to dodge rice and old shoes, the couple took an auto to Lake View and then caught a train.

70 years ago

Repair of the airplane that flopped into Lake Tahoe Saturday is possible. The plane, rented from Pathfinder Flying Service was flying very low over the lake close to the shore and the Glenbrook golf course. When a turn was attempted, a wing touched the surface, flopping the plane into the lake.

50 years ago

The June meeting of the Carson City Barracks and Auxiliary #1814 of World War Veterans was held in Heroes Memorial Hall. Of special interest was the report submitted by Ruth E. Miller. Over 200 sewing hours were recorded for the hospital making scuffies, tea binders, shoulder slings and ankle and wrist restrainer protectors.

Twenty-six percent of Nevada households have had at least one member without health insurance coverage at some time during the past year.

Douglas County Search and Rescue spends hundreds of hours this weekend looking for missing recreationalists. Thirty-seven volunteers did what they do best, mobilize and locate the stranded and injured.
