PREPS: Tigers improve to 6-0

MINDEN - After a 7-2 victory over Fallon Tuesday afternoon, the Douglas baseball team found itself off to its best start since 2004.

The Tigers put together their sixth-consecutive win - their longest such streak since 2009 - to improve to 6-0 on the young season.

Junior Nolan Weintz tossed three perfect innings on the mound, striking out four, walking none and allowing no hits.

The offense backed him up with a four-run first and pushed it from there.

"Fallon is a good team," Douglas coach Bruce Jacobsen said. "They were the 3A state champs last year and the year before they were a game away from the 4A playoffs. It's a good program and they came in here and took it to us last year.

"It was good to get up on them early. With the weather rolling in, you just never know what's going to happen. We were glad to come away with a win."

Matt Santos went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to lead the Tigers at the plate. Cody Begovich doubled and drove in a run and Jimmy King and Chase White each had an RBI.

Dayton 25, ROP 4

YERINGTON - The Dust Devils improved to 4-1 with an easy win over Rite of Passage Tuesday afternoon.

Skyler Berntson, a freshman, worked the first three innings to pick up the win. He fanned five and walked two while allowing just one hit.

Jack Phillips went 2-for-3 with five RBI, while Elliott King went 3-for-4 with four RBI.

Dayton returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. with a home doubleheader against Lovelock.
