Sign company sprucing up fast food restaurants

Whether it’s a sign of the times is unknown, but Custom Sign & Crane Co. of Carson City is showing signs of business throughout the region.Adam Schembry and Shannon Bettridge were at it crane and paint bucket Monday, installing and painting a new sign for the Jack in the Box at 3665 S. Carson St. near Raley’s Supermarket.Bettridge, one of the sign firm’s working owners was up in the crane painting the new sign, Schembry said. Meanwhile, Schembry put the old one on a trailer behind a company truck in the parking lot.“We did a bunch in Reno already,” said Schembry, indicating Custom Sign & Crane has the job for Jack in the Box outlets throughout Northern Nevada and part of California.There are three Jack in the Box restaurants in Carson City, another in Gardnerville and one in Dayton as well.A journeyman electric sign man with five years experience, Schembry said getting called in recently by the sign firm was a Godsend.“It helps out my family so much,” he said. “I thought I was going to die (working) in a warehouse somewhere after I spent all this time learning the electric sign business.”He said Bettridge has two decades experience in the business.Jack in the Box, which has 2,200 fast food outlets in 19 states, in Nevada has 77 restaurants and in 930 throughout California. Based in San Diego, Calif., the public company’s stock is traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol JACK.Custom Sign & Crane is a limited liability company located at 2222 Mouton Drive in Nevada’s capital city. It handles various sign services, among them installation, interior and exterior signage, maintenance contracts, LED message centers, permit processing and face replacements.
