Nine of 10, Wave softball starting to turn up heat

It took some time, but the Fallon softball team is heating up.

The Lady Wave swept Silver Stage in dominating fashion on Saturday and have won eight of their last nine games. Fallon cruised to a pair of five-inning wins of 12-0 and 19-2 over the Nighthawks.

In the first game, the Lady Wave (8-5, 2-0 Lahontan League) exploded for 12 runs in the second inning highlighted by a home run from freshman Kalyn Huckaby, her first of the year. Huckaby had three hits, three RBIs and scored two runs to lead Fallon.

Senior second baseman Kaysee Archer added two hits, an RBI, one run and a double, while freshman Megan McCormick tallied a pair of hits and a run. Freshman Paige Thorne belted a double and triple and drove in three for Fallon.

Junior pitcher Rileigh Ricken went the distance striking out six and allowing one hit and two walks.

In the second game, Fallon tallied 14 runs in the first two innings behind more offensive firepower.

Junior Shelby Lawry went 4-for-4 and smacked two doubles, scored four runs and added two RBIs. McCormick and Huckaby each had three RBIs to lead Fallon and freshman Miranda Ford blasted her first home run of the season.

In all, the Lady Wave racked up 16 hits including six doubles in the rout.

Ford, meanwhile, picked up the win as she allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out three.

Fallon travels to Pershing County on Saturday for a doubleheader with the Mustangs.

Notes: Senior Danielle Rothery leads the club with a .517 average and three triples. … Archer leads Fallon with 14 runs scored followed by McCormick (13), Gabby Sharpe (11) and Huckaby (10). … McCormick leads the team with 13 RBIs followed by Ali Tedford (12), Huckaby and Rothery (11) and Sharpe and Thorne (10). … Ricken has a team-high 46 strikeouts and is 4-4 with one save. … Ford is 4-1 with 11 strikeouts and a 2.56 ERA.
