The Carson High softball team lost the opening game of a two-game series to Bishop Manogue on Tuesday. Carson fell 9-4.

The Miners outhit Carson 9-6.

Bailey Allen had two hits, Kandis Tuttle had a hit, Michelle Perry, Malia Tiffer and Skye Simpson all added hits. Erica Watson drove in two runs and Jen Purcell added an RBI.

Purcell took the loss allowing nine runs, four earned on nine hits. She struck out six. Carson committed five errors.

The Senators host Manogue at 3:45 p.m. Thursday.

THURMAN SHINES

Carson High’s girls track squad fared well at last weekend’s Thunder Invitational at Rocklin High School.

Elena Thurman was second in the triple jump (36-3), ninth in the 100 (13.40) and 15th in the 200 (217.48). Thurman also teamed with Carly Bachman, Madison Preston and Athena Favero for a ninth in the 400 hurdles (53.93). Courtney Hack was fifth in the shot at 34-6 and 13th in the discus (87-4). The quartet of Allison Greene, Athena Favero, Jessie Balkwell and Kayla Aikins were 11th in the 1600 relay (4:32.44). Eveline Delgado was 12th in the 3200 (12:16.82) and 17th in the 1600 (5:39.49). Preston was third in the varsity high jump at 5-2 and Aikins was eighth at 4-6.

At the frosh-soph level, Favero won the 100 hurdles (21.44) and the 300 hurdles (50.0). Preston won the triple jump at 34-9. Sahara Winder was fifth in the 300 hurdles (53.49), ninth in the 100 (13.99) and 10th in the 200 (28.99). Abbey Dudley was sixth in the discus at 84 feet.

On the varsity boys’ side, Dakota Baker was third in the high jump (5-10) and ninth in the 300 hurdles (43.61). Levi Carter was second in the discus (137-1) and 17th in the shot put (39-4). Joey Thurman was eighth in the long jump (19-2 3/4) and the 1600 relay group was eighth in 3:37.83. Zach Heinz was 10th in the 800 at 2:05.21.

In frosh-soph competition, Asa Carter won the triple jump in 42-6, was third in the long jump at 19-8, fourth in the 300 hurdles at 43.92 and eighth in the 110 high hurdles at 17.97. Daniel Jauregui was sixth in the 3200 (10:46.21) and eighth in the 1600 (4:52.45). Ian Schulz was fifth in the discus at 119-10 and Christopher Miranda was ninth in the discus 112-2. Miranda was also 12th in the shot at 39-5. The 1600 quartet of Jesus Lopez Rodriguez, Da’Vid Lewis, Alexander Estrada and Hector Gomez-Barrios were 11th at 4:04.38.
