Community Sports Golf fundraiser scheduled for Edgewood

The 26th annual golf fundraiser for Whittell and South Tahoe high schools is set for May 4-5 at Edgewood Golf Club at Stateline.

The $125 entry fee includes golf, a golf cart and lunch. There will be raffle prizes, a closest-to-the-pin contest and a hole-in-one prize. More than $28,000 was raised for the two schools last year, according to a news release.

GRIZZLIES WIN STATE CROWN

The Tahoe Grizzlies bantam hockey team knocked off the Fresno Jr. Monsters to win the state championship during the weekend.

Tahoe started the tourney with a 7-1 win over the San Diego Jr. Gulls. Fresno beat Tahoe 3-2 in the next round, forcing the locals to have to play the California Heat to reach the finals. Tahoe emerged with a 4-3 win.

Spencer Olson and Reed Leqeurica, both of Carson City, are on the squad.


SILSBY WINS MONTHLY MASTERS

Kevin Silsby finished with a plus-22 to win the A flight at the Men’s Club Stableford tournament at Silver Oak recently. Bill Prowse was second with a 16, while Paul Jorgensen and Marc Garcia tied for third at 14.

Jeff Cloutier won the B flight with 26. Wilson Honsberger was second with 12, while Bill Whitstone and Ben Bohm tied for third with 6.


DALEN WINS AT EMPIRE RANCH

Gary Dalen shot a net 63 to win Flight A at the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Golf Club event back on April 10. Dale Guy was second at 64 and Nick Paul was third with a 65.

Mike Masiello won Flight B with a 63, while Jim Zewan and Tom Sawyer shot 64s. Clark Reid won Flight C with a 61, while Tom Harlow and Fred Perdomo shot 66s. Chuck Edgar won Flight D with a 64 followed by Bob Hendry with 65 and Bill Kaster with a 68.


FLY FISHING CLASS BEING OFFERED

The Carson Fly Fishing Club will conduct a beginning fly fishing class at 7 p.m. May 10, 13, 14 and 15 in the Ormsby Room at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

The course will cover equipment, casting, entomology, flies, and knots and leaders. This is the 14th year the free class has been offered to the public.

WILLIAMS 5TH IN U16 NATIONALS

Carson City’s Natalie Williams finished fifth in the U16 slalom at the recently concluded nationals in Park City, Utah.

Williams, who is home schooled so she can travel to national events, is sponsored in part by Reno Tahoe Audi. She has competed in track and cross country at Carson High.
