Two former Greenwave and Wolf Pack football standouts began their NFL preseason in opposite directions.

Harvey Dahl, a 1999 Fallon grad who played four seasons at Nevada, saw action in the St. Louis’ Rams preseason 27-19 loss against the Browns two weeks ago and played on Saturday against Green Bay. Despite a 19-7 loss to the Packers at home, the first-string offensive line protected quarterback Sam Bradford as he completed 8 of 12 passes for 156 yards. Bradford, though, botched the snap on fourth-and-goal from the 1 in the first quarter.

The Rams passed well as they accumulated 275 yards, but the running game was stale with only 52 yards on the ground.

Dahl enters the season No. 1 on the depth charter at right offensive guard. In his seventh year in the NFL, Dahl’s coming back from a torn bicep injury that ended his season two games early in 2012.

St. Louis travels to Denver on Saturday.

In the AFC, Josh Mauga (2005) has been sidelined with a back injury from practice earlier this month and missed the Jets’ preseason opener against Detroit and last weekend’s 37-13 win against Jacksonville. Teammate Garrett McIntyre, who played at South Tahoe, has recorded five total tackles this preseason.

McIntyre, according to coach Rex Ryan, is slated to start the next game.

Mauga, though, said he is hopeful to be back on the field this week against the Giants.

Mauga signed a one-year contract in March, but his short NFL career has been plagued with injuries since being picked up by New York four years ago. Mauga, though, is second on the depth chart behind Demario Davis at left inside linebacker.
