Nevada’s interim schools chief says she’ll resign when the state’s new superintendent gets settled into his new job.

The Las Vegas Sun reports Rorie Fitzpatrick announced her resignation Tuesday in an email to the Nevada Board of Education.

Fitzpatrick has been interim superintendent since March and was one of three finalists vying for the job to replace James Guthrie, who resigned after a year.

Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval last week picked his childhood friend and former adviser Dale Erquiaga to fill the post permanently. Erquiaga left Sandoval’s administration in 2012 and moved to Arizona.

Fitzpatrick says she will support Erquiaga through the transition over the next couple of months and does not have a firm departure date.

She has been with the Nevada Department of Education since 1998.
