Commissioners receive unique award

The County Commissioners held their first meeting for the month of December and were presented with an award that not many counties in Nevada hold.

Lindsey Niedzielski, program manager for Connect Nevada gave an update and award to the commissioners. Niedzielski said Churchill County is second in the state and one of only three counties to be certified by Connect Nevada. She said Connect Nevada brings universal broadband to states, providing widespread access to rural counties. An award, pens for the commissioners and signs to display on the roadways were presented to the commissioners.

Accept proposals from Fast Glass and Hotwire Electric LLC., to complete American Disability Act (ADA) improvements at seven county facilities funded by the Community Development Block Grant program.

Approved Darrin and Misty Alegre application for a sending site and transfer of development rights calculation for property located at northwest corner of Drumm Lane and Testolin Road, off Rogers Road, assessor’s parcel number 006-671-60, assign a total of 66 transferable developmental rights to the property upon recordation of conservation easement.

Discussed possible Community Development Block Grant concerning Churchill County youth advocate program for $70,066. Final public hearing for all Community Development Block Grant proposals will be held Dec. 18.

Approved acceptance of the $5,964 grant from Social Entrepreneurs, Inc. to provide community action training and capacity building activities.


Approved Churchill county road department job description and add a two-grade increase to all positions except the clerical positions affective Jan. 6, 2014.

Approved transfer of funds to the City of Fallon for first and final payment for the South Taylor Street island removal project and partial payment for the Convention Center Drive project, which bypassed the convention center and WNC was completed in November.

Request to transfer funds from the city to the Churchill County Road Department and equipment replacement plan for first and final payment on the Candee Lane asphalt overlay project and the bottom road asphalt overlay project.

Approved furlough policy.

Approved 90 day hiring delay attrition policy that was submitted with a couple of caveats.

This will allow department heads have the ability to appeal to the commissioners directly if they weren’t happy with the answer they received from the committee effective from Dec. 9 to Dec. 15, 2014, and to be reviewed at that time.

Approved Churchill county’s section 125 pre-tax flexible benefits plan: adopted an amended plan document, allow a $500 carryover for the health flex spending account (Health FSA), and allow enrollment in the health care exchange to be an event allowing an employee to modify a pre-tax election for premiums for accident and health coverage.
