The Circus: The balloon ascension was splendid. Jack Lee, of the immortal Lee Family of circus performers, went up astraddle of a bar rigged to the pendant halyards. It went up beautifully in the calm air and came gracefully down by Duffy’s place. The fat woman from Oregon, the jolly dwarf, the Caucasian family from Belochistau greeted the visitors as they came into the tent ... It is a good show, honest and square up. The trick horses are the best and the tumbling excellent ...

Trees to stone: Andy Fife informs that while prospecting for wood up along the Colorado River, he came upon a petrified forest on the Arizona side of the river. It was over 300 acres and petrified trees 20 feet in diameter ... The sagebrush and grass are all turned to stone. It is near the location where Captain Powell is endeavoring to have the government establish a national park (Pioche Record).
