Logging on the Truckee is a prosperous business. The State Journal informs us that the river has been rather high for a few days and Sen. Eastman’s logs are coming down at a lively rate. Eastman has always been a more than ordinary log roller.

130 years ago

Honorable William Woodburn, who visited Washoe Lake yesterday, reports the surface of the water is a mass of dead fish, and they are piled on the shore in the thousands with the air filled with the stench of decaying bodies. Washoe farmers should take note and use the fish to fertilize their land.

100 years ago

Maurice Laughlin of Carson easily disposed of Doust at the championship tennis match in New York. This entitles Laughlin the right to go abroad and compete for the Davis cup and world championship honors.

70 years ago

Tom Bradshaw, state department of agriculture representative, reported today that a small band of grasshoppers have infested New Empire, a small settlement east of Carson City. It was also reported that two bands had infested the Dayton area.

50 years ago

The 150 delegates to Nevada Boy’s State elected officials of four mythical cities today. The boys go to Carson City Friday to meet Gov. Grant Sawyer and conduct mock legislative matters in the statehouse.

20 years ago

Valedictorian Jennifer Holley and Salutatorian Tammy Allen will graduate Friday at Dayton High School.
