Obituary: Marvin Glaesman

October, 1925 - June 11, 2013

Marvin Glaesman, a World War II Navy Man made his Honor Flight June 11th to meet his Commander-in-Chief, the Lord Jesus Christ, in person. He died at home with his wife and family.

Marvin was born in Cloudchief, Oklahoma, in October 1925. After his tour in the Navy, he attended college in Reedley, California, where he met Mary Tewell from Elko. They married in June 1951.

The following year they drove the Alcan to Alaska, living for a time in a rustic cabin they built in the woods. They became dedicated Alaskans, and were on hand to vote for Statehood. They raised eight children - Kerry, Kevin, Dale, Duane, Dolly, Candy, Peter and Sheri. Kerry preceded Marvin in death.

Forty-one years went by. In 1993 they moved south to Fallon to be close to Mary’s Mom, Arlis Tewell, who lived to be 104.

Marvin had a kind smile for everyone. Among other jobs, he drove school bus in Alaska and Fallon. The kids all loved “Marv” for his gentle humor. He volunteered at the Fallon Senior Center with Meals on Wheels, and at the Food Pantry. He was a quiet leader at Christian Life Center, always willing to lend a hand.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary; sister, Wilda and brother, Del; his children; grandchildren; extended family, and many friends in many places. He truly loved Fallon and appreciated the wonderful people in his church, in the Senior Center, and in Ideal Home Court among loving and caring neighbors. Mary and her family wish to thank all of you for the love and friendship Marv cherished so very much.

There will be a time of remembrance and a reception at Christian Life Center, Friday June 14th at 6 pm.
