Lesué blazes into Arena league opener

Entering his fourth year in the Arena Football League, Aaron Lesué has become one of the league’s best receivers.

The 2001 Fallon grad and Utah Blaze begin their season Saturday on the road against the Pittsburgh Power, and Lesué is looking to turn in another stellar season.

Lesué was named to the All-Arena first team last year after setting a single-season combined AFL record with 64 touchdown receptions. He also set a franchise record and placed third AFL history with 56 regular-season touchdown receptions. He started all 20 games and finished with 181 receptions for 2,155 yards and also had 31 yards on kickoff returns.

The former Utah State receiver served a two-year Mormon mission in Ireland after graduating from Fallon, where he was one of Tommy Thomson’s best running backs. Lesué was a first-team all-conference selection during his senior season after running for more than 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was also named the team’s MVP and earned MVP honors at the BYU football camp and JCFootball.com all-combine team.

After his mission, Lesué played at Dixie State College in St. George, Utah, where he converted from running back to receiver. In two seasons, he caught 30 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns before transferring to Utah State and walking on with the Aggies, who played against the Wolf Pack before Nevada moved to the Mountain West last season.

With the Aggies, Lesué played in all 12 games in 2006 as a receiver.

The Blaze play their home games in Salt Lake City and will compete near Fallon later in the season. Utah visits San Jose on May 25 at the HP Pavillion.
