The Carson City Symphony will present “At the Movies” at the 29th annual Pops Party concert at 3 p.m. June 9 on the back lawn at the Governor’s Mansion.

David Bugli will direct the Symphony playing familiar and less-known themes from “Grease,” “Porgy and Bess” and other movies.

The show will feature the Carson City Symphony Chorus, Youth Strings, and guest singer Jakki Ford.

The Carson City Symphony will be joined by 38 strings students for a medley from “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” Jakki Ford will sing “Lady is a Tramp” and “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.”

The Symphony Chorus, conducted by Michael Langham, will sing “One Day More” from “Les Miserables,” “The Pink Panther,” and “Somewhere” from “West Side Story.”

Admission is free.

The audience is invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs and food, as seating will be on the lawn. Some chairs will be provided and snacks and beverages will be on sale.

Proceeds from a raffle and food and beverage sales will benefit the Carson City Symphony Association’s artistic and educational programs.

The concert is supported with public funding through the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts; Partnership Carson City; and the Nevada Commission on Tourism.

The grounds open with pre-concert entertainment by the Symphony Flutes at 2 p.m.
