AJ Gutierrez, 12, recorded six top-10 finishes at the recent Nevada Short Course Championships sponsored by the Boulder City/Henderson swim team.

Gutierrez was fourth in the 200 free (2:07.79), fifth in the 500 free (5:39.21) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:29.91). He was also sixth in the 100 free (59.58), seventh in the 100 IM 1:10.77, and 10th in the 50 back (33.09).

Below are other top placers:

Dagen Kipling, 15, recorded three top-10 finishes to lead the Carson Tigersharks Kipling was sixth in the 400 IM (4:22.51), sixth in the 100 breast (1:04.02) and 10th in the 200 IM (2:04.97). He was 11th in the 200 free (1:49.52).

Tallon Rauch, 16, recorded three top-10 finishes. He was eighth in the 100 back (56.72), ninth in the 200 back (2:00.64) and 10th in the 100 free (50.24).

Morgan Nelson, 13, swam a leg on the eighth-place 400 free relay team (4:07.53). Blanca Sosa, Nicole Van Geel and Christy Krahn also were on the relay squad.

Kevin Kruitbosch, 14, swam a leg on the seventh-place 400 medley relay team (4:38.90). Jay Session, Reece Canfield and Brett Kolb.

Brett Kolb, 14, finished seventh in the 1650 free (19:23.32).

Maggie Jessee, 8, teamed with Corine Doran, Katarina Klatt and Carlee Nixon to finish seventh in the 100 free relay (1:20.03).

Eli Everest, 17, was fifth in the 1650 free, clocking an 18:44.86. She was eighth in the 500 free (5:25.83).


Dayton cheer squad 1st

The Dayton junior varsity cheer squad took first place at the Sierra Youth Football league competition in Reno on Nov. 10.

Members of the team are Taylor Kinney, Hailey Evans, Anica Castaneda, Hope Smith, Aryanna Ortega, Ashley Bromley, Alexis Embro, Isbel Embro, Larissa Glenn, Madison Crowder, Ashley Hale, Ashley Little, Makayla Boesen, Brianna Molnar, Camille Kordonowy, Emily Baughman, Jayden Medrano, Lizzie Osiakowski, Makayla Hollstein, Sophia Azevedo and Tabbie Thompson. The coaches are Krystal Evans, Tannis Kinney, Nancy Sid and Caleah Castaneda.


TWO ACES IN AREA

Bob Gorrindo and Mike Mignani recorded holes-in-one recently.

On Nov. 11, Gorrindo aced the 155-yard par-3 8th at Thunder Canyon. Gorrindo used a 9-iron for his shot.

On Oct. 5, Mignani, who resides in Antioch, Calif., recorded his first ace on the 159-yard par-3 17th at Eagle Valley West. He used a 5-iron.


ELKS HOOP CONTEST

The Carson City Elks Lodge is hosting a free throw contest on Jan. 14 at the Carson City Community Center starting with registration at 8:30 a.m. The event is open to boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 13. Entrants must bring a birth certificate and be accompanied by a guardian or parent.

MITEY MITES LOSE

The Carson Mitey Mites ended the season with a 12-6 loss to Douglas recently.

Carson had a potential game-winning score called back in the fourth quarter. Zach Guthrie scored Carson’s lone touchdown.

Vinny Ferretti and Dawson Main ran well behind blocking from Schuyler Clark, Caid Encinas, Nathan McKee and Alva Zervo. Alex Myrehn, Seth Knox. Quentin Beck, Keegan Ferris, Eli Foutz and David Smith were among the defensive standouts.

Carson finished the season 6-3.
