Carson District Court Judge Jim Wilson announced Thursday that he is running for a second six-year term.
He joins Todd Russell, who also is seeking a second full term on the bench.
The two judges serve the First Judicial District Court, which serves Carson City and Storey County.
Wilson graduated from Carson High and the University of Nevada, Reno, before attending McGeorge School of Law.
He was a deputy district attorney, then Elko County district attorney, before returning to Carson City, where he was in private practice for 22 years.
He ran for the district court seat vacated by retiring Judge Bill Maddox in 2008.
“The American legal system is based upon the principle that an independent, impartial and competent judiciary composed of men and women of integrity will interpret and apply the law that governs our society,” Wilson said in a news release.
“I have dedicated myself to honoring and strengthening that principle.”
He has been recognized by the Nevada Supreme Court and National Judicial College in Reno for his work in judicial education.
He is chairman of the Sierra Judicial Council and a member of the Supreme Court Juvenile Justice Commission and Access to Justice commission.
