Foley-led Dust Devils cruise past Reed

Despite the absence of setter Peach Coons to an ankle injury, Dayton managed to knock off Reed 24-26, 25-19, 25-12 and 25-22 Saturday afternoon.

Dayton improved to 24-1 heading into Tuesday’s home match against Truckee at 6 p.m.

“I was nervous at first,” Dayton volleyball coach Monica Halverson said. “We shut them down in the second and third games and then got the fourth game. I love playing Reed.”

Madi Foley had 22 kills, 14 digs and two blocks in what has to be termed a mild upset. Ashley Vickers had 15 kills, eight digs and three aces, while Taryn Schriner finished with 14 digs. Lettie Lynch had six kills, three aces, three assists, a dig and a block. Kaylee Turner finished with five blocks and five digs. Shalia Powell filled in for Coons and had nine assists and six digs.

“Shalia stepped up and rose to the occasion,” Halverson said.

Yerington wins in 5

BATTLE MOUNTAIN — Yerington improved to 6-0 in league after knocking off Battle Mountain 25-9, 17-25, 22-25, 25-13 and 15-7 Friday night.

Kassidy Lommori finished with 30 kills, 12 digs and five blocks to lead the Lions. Ashley Rife added 33 assists, 11 digs, six kills and three aces. Deseree Landa had 12 assists and four digs, while Angele Sciarani had 22 digs. Brooke Menesini served up four aces, had 16 digs and six kills. Chloe Dane finished with 10 kills and eight digs.


Carson rolls Mustangs

Elijah Fajayan ran for 183 yards and three scores to lead Carson past Damonte Thursday night.

The win upped Carson’s record to 3-1 entering Thursday’s game at Fernley.

Vic Castro V tossed TD passes of 8 and 1 yards to Conner Pradere. Castro completed 10 of 17 for 83 yards and rushed 10 times for 50 yards. Pradere had eight catches for 83 yards, while Austin Lowe contributed 51 yards rushing. Stephan Montoya had a 22-yard field goal.

Caulin Bartley and Ikela Lewis led the defense with 11 and 10 tackles, respectively. Gage Gunzberg added an interception and three tackles while Ben Ray finished with five tackles.
