RENO — Ex-lobbyist and developer Harvey Whittemore is asking the Nevada Supreme Court to grant him an emergency hearing to argue why his suspended law license should be reinstated despite his felony convictions for making illegal campaign contributions.

Whittemore has been ordered to report Jan. 31 to a federal prison in Herlong, Calif., to begin serving a two-year prison sentence for using straw donors to funnel more than $134,000 to Sen. Harry Reid’s 2007 campaign.

The high court temporarily suspended his law license this week pending the Nevada Bar Association’s formation of a disciplinary board to initiate a formal review.

Whittemore lawyer Justin Bustos filed the request for an emergency hearing, saying “good cause exists” to set aside the suspension and let Whittemore’s legal team make their case before the justices.
