The Wild Animal Infirmary for Nevada is seeking donations to continue to care for the wildlife at the facility.
Nancy Laird, who runs the infirmary at 2920 Eagle St. in Washoe Valley, said it has run uncharacteristically low on feed for the birds. High on the list, she said, is baby song-bird foods called Exact and Nurti-Start, available at pet stores.
Also needed is chick starter and game bird starter as well as hen scratch. Puppy pads, both small and large sizes, are needed to line indoor cages and carriers.
Laird said the feed will be essential when birds are hatching again, and the infirmary is tasked with raising orphaned or abandoned birds until they are strong enough to be released into the wild.
“We get hundreds of little baby nestlings in the spring,” she said. “The food for them is expensive.”
The infirmary is also asking for old-style fishing nets, with soft netting to be used to transport raptors.
