Helen M. Burns, 94, of Carson City passed away September 22, 2013. Helen was born December 8, 1918 in Oakland, California to James and Helen (Madsen) Gooch.

Helen worked in retail sales in Leadville, Colorado, Red Bluff, California, Las Vegas, Nevada and retired in 1979 as Assistant Manager of the Sears Catalog Store in Carson City. After her retirement in 1979, she worked at the Nevada State Childrens Home as assistant to the Executive Director, then at City Hall working on legal files for storage on microfiche. Helen the attended Western Nevada Community College and received her Associates Degree in Applied Science.

Helen was active in First United Methodist Church where she served as financial secretary for the Church from 1987-1992. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and attended the Ruth Circle.

She was Past Matron, Esther Chapter #3 O.E.S., Past Worthy High Priestress, Sierra Sage Shrine #3, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Past President, Carson Assembly #236, Social Order of the Beauceant, Member of Ammon-Ra Temple #56, Daughters of the Nile, Past President, Carson Nile Club and Past President, Past Matrons and Past Patrons Club of Carson City.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John in 2006. She is survived by: sister-in-law, Shirley Morris; niece, Carol McBirnie and great-nephew, Michael McBirnie all of Arroyo Grande, CA. A Memorial Service will be held Friday October 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Carson City.
