A 400-plus-pound bear tried to enter into the Nevada Day parade on Saturday.

According to the Nevada Department of Wildlife, a male black bear was tranquilized in the backyard of a residence near Joshua Drive and Slide Mountain Drive early Saturday morning.

Reports started coming in about to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office about a bear near Lone Mountain Cemetery, about a half mile from the parade route.

Carson City Sheriff’s personnel controlled a crowd of neighborhood onlookers while Nevada Department of Wildlife game wardens successfully tranquilized the bear.

The bear will sleep off the tranquilizer drugs overnight and will be released today in the hills above Carson City.

Persons needing to report nuisance bear activity can call the NDOW’s Bear Hotline telephone number at (775) 688-BEAR (2327). For information on living with bears persons can go to www.ndow.org and find the ”Bear Logic” page on the web.
